Luciano Pavarotti, the legendary Italian tenor, was born on October 12, 1935. He was also popularly known as one of the Three Tenors, the other two being Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras. The “King of the high C’s” died early in the morning of September 6, 2007 at the age of 71 at his home in Modena. He was surrounded by his wife and three older daughters. The cause of his death was pancreatic cancer. Terri Robson, his manager, stated that the Maestro fought hard against the pancreatic cancer which took his life but despite the struggles that Pavarotti had, he remained positive until he finally succumbed to the last stages of his illness.

He had undergone surgery in July 2006 and on August 9, this year, he was hospitalized again and was released by August 25. On September 5, it was reported that the Italian singer’s health was deteriorating and that he was in a very serious condition.

London’s Royal Opera House said, “He was one of those rare artists who affected the lives of people across the globe, in all walks of life. Through his countless broadcasts, recordings and concerts, he introduced the extraordinary power of opera to people who perhaps would never have encountered opera and classical singing. In doing so, he enriched their lives. That will be his legacy.”
