Looked up to as one of the best schools in the country, the University of the Philippines which was established in 1908, celebrated its centennial anniversary today. Different activities were held to highlight the festivity.
Many of us know that the U.P. Oblation which is located at the Diliman Main Library is a popular iconic symbol of this prestigious university. It is represented by a man whose face is tilted toward the heavens and with arms wide open, to symbolize the selfless offering of one’s self to his country.
It was only today that I learned that the Oblation was made by Professor Guillermo Tolentino with the aid of Anastacio Caedo. During the making of this remarkable sculpture, many people thought that the model of the statue was Fernando Poe, Sr. but a book contradicted this claim stating that it was actually Anastacio Caedo who served as the model of the Oblation.

Hello! It’s only last week when i learned that Fernando Poe Sr. is not the model of the UP Oblation(according to various sites). Would you mind if i ask if you know the book where it is said that Anastacio Caedo is the real model? Hope to have responses. thanks!
